Phil is an electrical engineer by degree who spent 17 years with the Department of Defense, leading teams that developed systems for Naval Aviation. The work mattered, but years inside government bureaucracy left him wanting a more direct, personal way to make an impact on the people around him.
In 2012, Phil and his wife, Karen, took a leap of faith and founded what is now KP Homescapes. What started as a dream to build something meaningful has grown into more than 750 completed projects across Southern Maryland, each one a family’s own version of a backyard sanctuary. Phil believes outdoor spaces are where life’s best moments happen: quiet mornings on the deck, evenings around the fire pit, summer barbecues on the patio.
Phil’s approach comes down to one idea: treat every project like it’s his own home. That means understanding a family’s vision and how they live in their space, from the first conversation through the final walkthrough. In 1998, Phil and his family built their own 3,500-square-foot home together by hand, an experience that still shapes how personally he approaches every client’s project today. His son, Phillip, now serves as KP Homescapes’ Senior Outdoor Living Consultant, carrying the family business into its next generation.
